Message from our School Council Vice President
Another chilly night for school council to convene again. The hot topic of the car parking and the access to the school for our children was discussed. We are awaiting a 3rd quote and some decisions from the Education Department to proceed here. Please be vigilant about road safety when dropping off and picking up your children. Also note the car park on Rosamond Road is for staff only. The Survey Monkey underway for the policy of homework will give us a great insight to the school communities’ views to homework.
Council praised the success of the recent working bee and was great to see such a strong turn out of helper parents (and students!) on the day. School council members volunteer their time to both school council and sub-committee meetings each month.
Deborah Blackwell – Vice President
We had an incredible 92 families respond to our homework survey.
The following are a few key points from the survey.
90% of respondents agreed that homework is an important part of primary school life.
76% of respondents are aware of our homework policy
83% of respondents believe that the amount of homework given is “just about right”
10% of respondents believe that the amount of homework given was “ too little”
81% of respondents believe that the level of homework given was “ about right”
50% of respondents believe the most important reason for homework is that “it helps develop independent work habits”
47% of respondents “ correct my child's mistakes on homework tasks”
The feedback from the survey will be analysed by the leadership team this week, and if any amendments or shifts in policy are made, we will communicate this to the FNPS
We again thank you for your feedback.
End of Term 2
It is hard to believe, but this is our final newsletter for Term two. It has been a very busy term, with reports, interschool sport, excursions and our Curriculum Day. I would like to thank everyone who is part of our school community – students, parents and teachers – for all of their dedication and hard work this term. I hope that all of our teachers and students have a wonderful and restful term break. On a personal note, I would like to thank all the staff, students and community for your support whilst Sharon Walker has been at another school. Just a reminder that school finishes this Friday at 2.30 pm and students return to school for Term 3 at 8.45am on Monday 13th July.

Feedback is always welcomed at FNPS
At FNPS we always encourage our community to provide the school with feedback. No issues are too great or small and it’s important our parents feel like that can approach our teachers, administration and the leadership group to seek clarity or pass on any feedback.
The school council is important cog in this mechanism. Please feel free to seek out their counsel. Below are photos of some of the members of our school council.

Parent Carpark Update
Just a reminder there will not be any parent car parking facilities as from Monday 1st June in the Nursing Home carpark or May Street Car park.
In the next few weeks, you will notice that the car park off May Street will be undergoing major refurbishment so that it is able to be used as the new staff car park.
From Monday 1st June, the main pedestrian access points for the school will be from the two pedestrian entrances from Rosamond Road.
We strongly encourage you to be aware of the available on street car parking areas near the school so that you are prepared on the 1st June.
We have liaised with Maribyrnong Council to try and establish 5 minute drop off and pick up zones along Mephan Street. We hope to have those zones finalised before the 1st of June.
A new pedestrian access point will be constructed from Mephan Street once the new staff car park is operational....Read More
big thank you to all the parents and teachers that helped out on the Saturday morning working bee. The veggie patch is ready for the next crops to be planted by our students. The area behind the Prep building was weeded and cleaned up, and strawberries from the veggie patch were transplanted into the vertical garden. We made a start on cleaning out the guttering, but as you can appreciate with all these lovely gum trees, that was a huge task. I would like to acknowledge Kylie Paine for organising the morning in collaboration with her KidsMatter Parent group. We hope to see more parents for next term’s working bee.
